Hoaxes: From time to time we all get emails from friends, or from friends of friends, warning of the latest terrible danger on the internet. These warning emails usually tell of destructive emails or viruses and explain that Microsoft, Norton, the BBC, or some other authoritative body, has just issued the warning. Often, part of the warning is in capital letters to emphasise just how important it is. The message usually tells you to forward the warning to all your friends.
These warnings are ALWAYS hoaxes. Microsoft and the various internet security companies never issue these kinds of warnings. If lots of people send the messages on to all their friends the internet is cluttered with unnecessary traffic, enough of which can actually slow the movement of genuine traffic.
There are a number of websites dedicated to exposing these hoaxes. If you are worried
about warning messages, look them up on: Snopes or Hoax-
The best thing to do with these hoax emails is to delete them (and not to send them on).
