Keeping your computer healthy and clean will mean that it works as efficiently as possible. If it does, it will work as quickly as it can and you will experience fewer problems.
A quick search on Google, or some other search engine, will quickly find any number of programs designed to help you keep your computer clean and free from harm, usually for a price. You will also find many programs which are free, but how to choose?
Whether you want an antivirus program, a firewall, a spam filter or one of the other kinds of protective software, there is often an effective free solution, especially if you are not using your computer for commercial gain.
The downside of freeware is that:
- some free programs are a little less user-
friendly than equivalent commercial products, - some carry advertising (usually for the commercial version of the program) and
- some are actually harmful programs masquerading as helpful ones.
If you are thinking of downloading a freeware program it is always a good idea to search the internet for information about it first and see if there are any comments and advice about it on the net. (Be particularly wary of programs that unexpectedly tell you that there is something wrong with your computer and that they have just the software that will check your computer and fix the problems).
